Sandra Sulser Ponce de Leon
Sandra Sulser Ponce de Leon is a dedicated scientist and PhD candidate at Boston University, specializing in molecular and translational medicine, with a focus on understanding disease mechanisms to develop future cures. She earned her Master of Science in Nutrition and Metabolism from Boston University in 2021 and her Bachelor’s in Nutrition and Food Science from Mexico City in 2016.
With experience as a clinical nutritionist and researcher, Sandra has contributed to nutritional interventions for patients with cancer, cardiovascular, autoimmune, and metabolic diseases. Her work spans molecular research, epigenetic studies, and translational applications, aiming to bridge laboratory discoveries with patient care.
Passionate about community and service, she has volunteered with Catholic Charities in Chicago, providing nutrition education and healthy meal guidance to low-income families. Fluent in multiple languages, Sandra balances her rigorous research schedule with personal pursuits, including daily running and marathon training.
Her ultimate goal is to advance science that uncovers cures for diseases, combining her expertise in nutrition, molecular medicine, and translational research to make a meaningful impact on human health.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my passion for education and my commitment to staying current with scientific advancements. I have always loved science and remain endlessly curious about how the body works. My career began as a dietitian, and that foundation sparked a lifelong drive to explore, learn, and contribute to the ever-evolving field of health and medicine.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My best career advice is simple: be consistent, feel passion, and do without hesitation. This has been my guiding motto throughout my journey. Consistency builds trust and expertise, passion fuels perseverance, and acting without hesitation turns opportunities into achievements.
